Within this activity, pupils devised simple mathematical puzzles and quizzes. They created cards with tasks and prepared an activity class of mathematics for pupils in the parallel class using the cards.
In this activity, pupils of the fourth grade devised simple mathematical puzzles and quizzes. The activity was participated by 15 pupils from 4.B. Their aim was to create interesting mathematics activities based on their previous experience with puzzles from mathematics lessons. Pupils were engaged in the activity both at school and at home. In school, children devised tasks in small groups (2 – 4 pupils), some of them by themselves. Everyone could present their idea to the group, and together they chose one. The most interesting part was the cooperation on the final text of the quiz task. Pupils, with occasional help of the teacher who acted more as a coach, paid special attention to clarity of brevity of the task text. The task text was then written on cards.
Verification of the applicability of the cards was first carried out in the classroom on other groups of pupils. This helped to remove occasionally inaccuracies. The children then tested the cards on pupils of the parallel class. The final product were rectangular cards of the size of about 12 x 8 cm made of hard cardboard. On the front of the cards, there was the task text. The back was covered with printed numbers in different colours and sizes.
All cards were laminated. In total, there were 20 cards with variously demanding tasks. A sheet with correct answers is enclosed to the cards. It is up to the teacher to select the method of their use in mathematics classes. The pupils did well with the task and were delighted that their work was meaningful.
