This digital object has been developed in “Properties and new uses of materials for design” subject from the Design degree from EINA, University School of Design and Art (attached to the Autonomous University of Barcelona). The aim of the subject has been research about one material and then design a project in the Graphic Design and Visual Creation area where this material present a new use.

Arrels is an industrial product and graphic design project which deals with the experimentation of new usages for newsprint. This material has allowed the creation of a product that aids in crops’ plantation. Furthermore, the product gives an added value in matters of both plantation and materials used.

The material used for the development of the project is newsprint, specifically, the waste which it generates. As reflected on the previous graphic, every day the printings generate tonnes of material to which we would like to give a second use. Among those materials there is paper which has not been printed, and as our product contains food, we would use this kind of paper to make it.
